MIT 6.189 A Gentle Introduction to Programming Using Python (OCW) 14 Online
OpenStudy (datanewb):

Which version of Python will you install?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I installed 2.7.3.

OpenStudy (datanewb):

The MIT course uses version 2.6 (and explicitly recommends we install 2.6.x NOT 3.x): http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-189-a-gentle-introduction-to-programming-using-python-january-iap-2011/lectures/MIT6_189IAP11_start.pdf BUT, version 2.6 was released around 4 years ago. I think I'm going to try the latest stable release, and if I have to, I'll reinstall version 2.6 later when necessary. Anyone know a good reason to follow the MIT course instructions regarding 2.6.x installation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2.7.3 includes some features of 3 but hopefully nothing that will interfere with the course material. 3 will definitely cause problems with the course material.

OpenStudy (datanewb):

Thank you, that is helpful.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ur welcome:-)

2.7.3 This was recommended for use with the MITX 6.00x Introduction to Computer Science on-line course which has just started. As a complete beginner, some of the basics are not readily understandable.

OpenStudy (andriod09):

"YOU MUST USE 2.6.8 FOR ALL CLASS WORK" it will not be accepted by anything higher, its what MIT using for its coding classes. soz.
