Continents and oceans have different heat capacities (the former is much lower). When the Sun rises, it heats the land faster than the ocean, which makes the air rise over the land, which makes air over the ocean rush into the partial vacuum -- given you the sea breeze in the morning blowing into port. In the evening, the process reverses, as the land cools off faster than the sea, and you get the land breeze blowing from the land out to sea.
