What are some effective parenting techniques?

Giving kids a curfew, being aware of where they're at, set rules etc.... I was/am a rebel but I know this is what they're asking for d: hah.

So would you prefer a hands-off parent, strict and disciplinary, very engaged, somewhat engaged, etc. ?

I would say somewhat engaged, very engaged & strict would cause a kid to be so rebellious
