nx+8=5 help solve

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

If you want to solve for x, then \[\Large nx + 8 = 5\] \[\Large nx= 5-8\] \[\Large nx= -3\] \[\Large x= -\frac{3}{n}\]

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The idea is to follow PEMDAS in reverse and undo each operation. So you undo +8 by subtracting 8 from both sides for instance.
