Why rain falls as drop of water.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Rain falls as water droplets due to its surface tension means it wants to reduce its area,so its acquires the shape of a drop

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for maximum stability water accure the shape of sphere bcoz sphere is most stable structure with minimum surface tension

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I mean why water dosnot fall constantly ........|dw:1349768945358:dw| I mean why is there gap between the drops.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I though it was due to accleration due to gravity.

hartnn (hartnn):

particles combine because of cohesive force between them to form drops, they fall because of gravity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And the gap between the drops arises due to constant accleration... right?

hartnn (hartnn):

there is gap, because all droplets are not of same size/volume, so gravity is maybe different for different droplets...hence the gap,so yes...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, air resistance also plays a key role.

hartnn (hartnn):

air resistance will provide upward force , hence the exact shape is not like a drop , but something like this....|dw:1349769416531:dw| and if its more ,that drops splits into 2 or more.....
