Thunder in the Ring" by Rusty James Slap, went the loser, on the mat. The crowd’s roar was outmatched, by the roar, of the man in the cage match. Like a gladiator of old he stood, the wrestler: big body, big mouth, big press machine, big shiny cape, teeny tiny outfit. Was this what you came to see, here in person?

To figure out if it was real, to figure out if he was real, to figure out why. But you made it real. Your dollar fed the body, encouraged the mouth, fueled the press machine, added shininess to the cape, (wish it could make that outfit bigger) you made it real, when you voted with your dollars. The poem uses several figurative devices, including ________, to make the reader end rhyme / feel the excitement of the scene as if he or she is in the match. hyperbole / realize that wrestling is real through the character of the wrestler. irony / realize the wrestling audience’s support makes the performance real. symbolism / understand the wrestler is a hero who is overcoming obstacles.
