How are exponents related to taking the root of a number?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exponents are the times a number is multiplied. say a*a*a = a^3. However, Roots are the opposite of this. The normal root is by 2. square root means root of 2 of the number. So, we can then assume that root3 (a^3) is then a. So, the answer to your question is that the root of a number is the opposite process of taking a number to a power.
