Can someone explain how to solve an equation with different variables?

It depends on the number of system of equations

You treat all the variables as its own entity. 1XY+2X+4Y + 4XY + 4X=4
In this example, you can combine the coefficients (the number in front of the variable) of the ones that have the same variables.
For example, you can combine the 1 and 4 of the two XY (1XY+4XY=5XY) but you can't comine 1XY and 2X because they are different variables.
