You want to find the common denominator, in this case the denominators are 8 and 3. The common denominator is 24, so multiply 7/8 by 3/3 and multiply 2/3 by 8/8. This is okay because 3/3 and 8/8 are equal to 1 and anything multiplied by 1 does not change the value. You will get (21/24)-(16/24) you can now subtract 16 from 21 and your final answer is 5/24.
