A meteorologist tracked the increase and decrease of rain totals in inches from the previous year. This is the data for the following 4 months: January -1.34, February 2.68, March 1.79, April -0.87. Estimate the change from the previous year by adding the totals rounded to the nearer whole number. A.increase of 2 B.decrease of 2 C. increase of 3 D.decrease of 3

OpenStudy (kropot72):

Have you added the four items of data?

OpenStudy (cenaida):

no because i didnt understand it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no idea about this one .

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The meteorologist compared the total monthly rainfall in the months of January, February, March and April for two successive years (lets say the years were 2010 and 2011). In January 2011 the rainfall was 1.34 inches less than the rainfall in January 2010. Therefore the data for January is shown as -1.34. In February 2011 the rainfall was 2.68 inches greater than the rainfall for February 2010. Therefore the data for February is 2.68. If you add the four items of data for January, February, March and April you will get the total change in rainfall between 2010 and 2011 for those four months. Does this explanation help you?
