Kansas City and Denver are 600 miles apart. Two cars start from these cities, traveling toward each other. They meet after 6 hours. Find the rate of each car if one car travels 30 mph slower than the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Relative speed between cars = total distance covered / time taken = 100 mph speed of 1 car be x then speed of other car will be x - 30 mph. as cars travelling in opposite directions relative speed = sum of speed of cars = x + x - 30 = 100 therefore x = 65 mph and speed of slower car is 35 mph
