|2x - 3| = 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Case I 2x - 3 = 7 2x = 10 x = 5 Case II - (2x-3) = 7 2x - 3 = -7 2x = -4 x = -2

OpenStudy (amorfide):

yahoo is correct but that does not explain how you can do that you have |2x - 3| = 7 you know that |7|=7 but you also know that |-7|=7 so this shows that 2x-3 my be 7 or -7 this allows you to create two equations 2x-3=7 2x-3=-7
