Perform the operations. (4.3a^2 + 1.6a − 4.3) − (2.7a^2 − 3.3a + 11.8)
add and subtract like terms. But first, distribute that negative. 4.3a^2 + 1.6a − 4.3 − 2.7a^2 + 3.3a + 11.8 add/subtract together the a^2's, then add/subtract the a's, and add subtract the plain numbers. whatever you have left, assemble together and that's your answer!
4.3a^2 + 1.6a − 4.3 − 2.7a^2 + 3.3a - 11.8 **it should be like this, not what i have written in the other post.
7a^2 + -1.7a - -7.5?
Not quite. You can write it a different way to make it more simple: (4.3a^2 - 2.7a^2) + (1.6a + 3.3a) + (-4.3 - 11.8) add/subtract the a^2, the a, and the constants. make sure to watch out for positive/negative signs
If you don't want to deal with the decimals, you could multiply everything by 10. Then you would have: (43a^2 - 27a^2) + (16a + 33a) + (-43 - 118) which is a bit easier to visualize
1.6a^2 + 4.9a + 7.5?
very close. everything except the 7.5 is right. look at it a bit more closely: -4.3 - 11.8, or -43 - 118 it isn't 118 - 43, and it isn't -43 + 118 Both numbers are negative. Another way to think about it: -43 + -118 well, 43 + 118 is 161. But it's negative so -161 And it's a decimal too, so it's -16.1
check my answer for this one? (8a2 − 4a) + (−5a2 + 6a + 2) i got 3a^2 + 2a + 2 is that right?
@funinabox ?
