Bill designs a table with a glass top. What is the length of the side AB of the glass top?

30 inches 45 inches 40 inches 15 inches

well the triangles are similar. One side of the lower triangle is 5 and the other is 15, meaning the bigger triangle is 3x as large as the other one. The base of the lower triangle is 6, so the base of the upper triangle would be 6*3 or 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so... It's 45? cause It's not 15!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

woops. i meant it increased by a factor of 5, not 3 so it would be 6*5 = 30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh... I see what you mean.

yep just look at the sides (it's stated they are similar which is why this is possible) side length of bottom is 3, and since the upper triangle is similar, and has a length of 15, that means the upper triangle is 5x larger so you can just multiply the base of the lower triangle by 5 to get the base of the upper one
