I'd just keep it simple. Start from the bottom up, because the "bottom" of the poem seems to explain more of the meaning then the "top."
IE: Something along the lines of "The people in my past have had effects of my life..." and draw from there. Make sense?

No problem. When paraphrasing poetry, try to find what "you" think the meaning behind the poem is, and just write out a simple little sentence over the "meaning."
