How would you paraphrase this: "Much as I own I owe The passers of the past Because their to and fro Has cut this road to last, I owe them more today Because they've gone away"

I'd just keep it simple. Start from the bottom up, because the "bottom" of the poem seems to explain more of the meaning then the "top." IE: Something along the lines of "The people in my past have had effects of my life..." and draw from there. Make sense?

No problem. When paraphrasing poetry, try to find what "you" think the meaning behind the poem is, and just write out a simple little sentence over the "meaning."
