Let f(x) = x – 2 and g(x) = x2 – 7x – 9. Find f(g(–1))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find g(-1) first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great now plug that into f(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i keep getting -4 which is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1 - 2 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but f(x) is -1-2 so then with g(x) is -1 so i get -1-1-2 ..which is -4 what am i doing wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basically, by doing g(-1) first and plugging it into f(x), you got f(g(-1))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

g(x) gets a value and you plug values into functions, in this case, it's asking you to plug the value of g(-1) into the function f(x)

got it thank you!
