What causes seasons?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

seasons are caused by the tilt of earths rotational axis away or towards the sun as travels a year long path around the sun.

It is also due to the fact that the orbit of Earth is not perfectly circular, but slightly elliptical. At the summer solstice, the Earth and the Sun are farther apart from each other, and vice-versa for the winter solstice.
