assuming an equal amount of surface area , which will have a faster temperature rise on a sunny day? a lake or land

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes this is chemistry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any idea?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since water reflects part of the light, and interact less with it, it would heat up more slowly than land, wich absorbs light. And the opposite would happen at night, where the water would lose less heat and be warmer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

true, but then it depends on the albedo of the ground. what if the ground is covered in snow. it would reflect all of the light

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the lake also dissapates heat much better than the land, so the surface of land will heat up faster, because the lake is a giant body that all needs to get warm
