ok got another one aq masons apprentice can build a wall in 10 hours and the mason can do the same in 6 hours how long if worked togetherl. i get 3.75

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if they were both fast (i.e. 6 hours per wall) and worked together, it would take 3 hours. If they were both slow, it would take them 5 hours, so your answer is POSSIBLE. Can you explain the math you did to get that answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ x }{ 6 }+\frac{ x }{ 10 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then the least common denominator is 30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then? put them both in plain english, compared to each other with the common element

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/6 of a wall for one/hr, 1/10 of a wall for the other/hr - 5/30 of a wall/hr and 3/30 of a wall/hr... gives us 8/30th of a wall per hour. so how many 8's do you need to get to 30?
