http://oi42.tinypic.com/ve965v.jpg the vertex for the parabola is (-3,-2) instead but everything else is the same, what is the value of a if the function was expressed in standard form? y=ax^2+bx+c? I was thinking 2 or -2 but I'm not sure which...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see the vertex from the graph to be (1, -2), why u wright (3, -2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm using that graph as an example, except the vertex is actually (3,-2) but the slope and everything on each side is the same. IN other words, everything is the same except the starting point of the parabola, the vertex, (3,-2).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are the x - intercepts same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just a sec, I'll give u a picture of it haha..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

U have these three points on the graph:(-3, -2), (-2, 0) & (-4, 0): where the first is the vertex of the parabola and the second two are the x - intercepts. Now insert them in the given equation and solve fo what u want.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

U will get this a= 1, b = 6 and c =7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer for a was 2 though O.o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I answered the question and it said 2 was the right answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Who said that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's an online math quiz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am certain but?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk lol..
