What equals |x|? sqrt{x^2} or (sqrt{x})^2

OpenStudy (amorfide):

y=|x|

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

if x is negative, then |x| = -x if x is positive, then |x| = x

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

I should say if x is nonnegative, then |x|=x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{x ^{2}} or (\sqrt{x})^{2}\]

OpenStudy (amorfide):

no @bahrom7893 is wrong WRONG |x| if x is negative |x|= x if x is positive |x|=x

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

@amorfide I am right, and before you start attacking, think about what I posted: for negative x, say, x=-2 |x| = -(-2) = 2

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

When x is nonnegative, |x| = x x=2 |x|=2 x=0 |x|=0

OpenStudy (amorfide):

okay well you are right :P but you kinda needed that explanation with your answer sorry about that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, no my question is in regard to the above two? |x| equals what? under-root x^2 or under-root x whole power 2
