use the distributive property on 4(x-3) and 2(x-1) 4x-12 - (2x-2) > 0 take 2x-2 out of parentheses 4x-12-2x+2 > 0 combine like terms 2x-10 > 0 isolate x 2x > 10 x > 5 represent as set {x | x > 5}
