You have 1/3 and 1/7 un-shaded, right? So, in order to find out how much of the circle is un-shaded you have to add them. And in order to add them, you have to find a common multiple between 3 and 7. So, if you multiply 1/3 by seven, you get 7/21. And if you multiply 1/7 by 3 you get 3/21. Now you can add them. The unshaded region totals up to 10/21. The entire circle is a whole, so you can represent this like this: 21/21. Now, to calculate which part is shaded, subtract the unshaded part from the whole. You now have 21/21-10/21=11/21
