Mt. Jefferson is located 1,650 feet above the plain. How many feet above sea level is Mt. Jefferson?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how many feet above sea level this plain is? Otherwise you don't have enough information to solve the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. the length of Mt. Jefferson's base B. the height above sea level of the plain c. the average height above sea level of surrounding mountains d. none of the above ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B. ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhhh interesting :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you don't know the actual height of the plain above sea level, but that is the amount you would need to know to solve the answer in number terms. The answer choices leave the answer in something like a variable that you would use in algebra... you don't get the actual number of feet, but you can express the height of the mountain above sea level as the height above the plain PLUS the height of the plain above the sea... check the diagram :)|dw:1349982710575:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the total height of the mountain above the sea is 1650 + height of plain above sea

thank you so much, your such a good helper! it makes so much sense when you've done the Diagram :D

Glad to help :)
