How many stages of mitosis are there? Because I got told there was four but I found out that there is at least 8

OpenStudy (gitface):

Mitosis itself is four stages; Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase. The cell cycle consists of Interphase, which is made up by Gap-1, Synthesis, and Gap-2. Then Mitosis occurs, with its 4 phases. And then cytokinesis occurs. That may be where your eight comes from. However, Meiosis (distinctly different than mitosis) does have 8 stages. Prophase I, Metaphase I, Anaphase I, Telphase I. And then; Prophase II, Metaphase II, Anaphase II, Telphase II. You may have found out information of meiosis intead of mitosis, or mistook the Cell Cycle for mitosis alone.
