i cant seem to find out what im doing wrong. the -2xy is messing me up i think.

if we look only at -2xy
so you have to apply the product rule :
take -2 out and
-2 d(xy)/dx = -2 * (y * (dx/dx) + x * (dy/dx)) = -2y -2x(dy/dx)
