Solve the quadratic equation 5x2 - 125 = 0. Show all your steps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know I do something like x^2 - b = c

OpenStudy (across):

\[\begin{align} 5x^2-125&=0\\ 5x^2&=125\\ x^2&=25\\ x&=\pm5 \end{align}\]

You just divided by 5?

OpenStudy (merchandize):

To solve this by factoring you first must divide the eqn by 5. Then subtract the right-hand result. Now you have the diff of 2 squares you should be able to factor it from there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, factor what?

OpenStudy (merchandize):

(x+5)(x-5)=0 i.e x=+5,x=-5

Ohh right! Thank you!
