1.Give the coordinates of two points on the line x = 5. 2.Give the coordinates of two points on the line y = -2. 3.Write the equation of the horizontal line passing through the point (-1, -8). 4.Write the equation of the vertical line passing through the point (3, 1). 5.Is the line with equation x = 4 horizontal or vertical? What is the slope of this line? 6.Is the line with equation y = -8 horizontal or vertical? What is the slope of this line? attached

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hi there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help me ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure, but what does this picture have to do with the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well for the first question Give the coordinates of two points on the line x = 5. the coordinates are on the picture. the questions are kinda based on the picture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, if you were to plot the line x=5, it would intersect y=x at (5,-5) and the at (5, -4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also, the line that says y=3 on the graph is incorrect, that line is actually y=-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And the line that says y=x is actually y=-x, So I don't understand what's going on .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhm, which answer goes with which question ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im a lil confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nevermind, lets just focus on number 1. It asks for two points that lie on the x=5 line. Two points can be (5,0) and (5, 1).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now for question 2. Two points that lie on y=-2 are (0, -2) and (1, -2).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you follow so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yess :) i was a lil confused but im good now :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The picture just seemed like irrelevant information that confused me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm, i thought it was referring to the coordinates on the graph, but i guess not. okay it was irrelevant. sorry lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now for number 3. An horizontal line that passes through the point (-1, -8) would be y=-8.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for number 4, x=3 is the proper equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it wouldnt be x = 1 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its asking for a vertical line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i see. okay, so what about number 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its a vertical line with an undefined slope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay and number 6 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you think number 6 is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its vertical, because it is on the x-axis. right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not exactly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ? sorry im not good at algebra.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats fine.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its a horizontal line with a slope of 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so could you explain to me what it would be ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you figure out what the picture was for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it was step one in my project. i just thought i went with these questions. thanks for your concern :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

best responce rewarded :)
