Determine what values of x make the following inequality true: x – 8 < -9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know the 1st step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let surdawi talk nobody else can interrupt!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hehe thanks sue

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's kind of obvious she doesn't want to do the work. It was clear how we did it in the last problem. She should know how to do it by now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just sayin'! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i was doing something but my sis said no she doesnt know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. Well, looking back at what we did in the last problem, what do you think we should do first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x – 8 < -9 how are you going to make x stand alone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtract 8 or whatever from both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well u have to cancel it out. so its already -8 it so you have to do the opposite. Add eight to both sides so try that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its already -8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what answer do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x < -17?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well when you add the answer goes up. I will show you drawing the picture...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-9 + 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH -1?
