if you put baily's rate as \(x\) then andrews is \(6x\), making their combined rate \(7x\) together they paint the house in 7 days. the house is one job, making \(7\times 7x=1\) and so \(x=\frac{1}{49}\) meaning baily can paint the house in 49 day. andrew's rate is six time that. his rate is therefore \(\frac{6}{49}\)
it will therefore take him \(\frac{49}{6}=8\tfrac{1}{6}\) days to paint the house this one was designed to confuse i think
6/49?
for andrews rate, yes, but it asked how long for each to paint the house
thats what i got too but what is that in days?
if andrews rate is \(\frac{6}{49}\) then it takes him \(\frac{49}{6}\) days to do one job
a better answer is probably \(8\tfrac{1}{6}\)
eight and one-sixth day
