Solve the inequality. –6b > 42 or 4b > –4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6b > 42 Divide by -6. b < -7 4b > -4 Divide by 4. b > -1

hero (hero):

–6b > 42 Add 6b to both sides, then subtract 42 from both sides to get -42 > 6b Divide both sides by 6 to get -42/6 > b Simplify to get -7 > b

hero (hero):

Yeah, but if you do it my way you don't have to worry about remembering to flip signs when dividing by negative number. I avoid dividing by negative numbers whenever possible.
