A car rental agency charges $250 per week plus $0.10 per mile to rent a car. The total cost, C, for the renting the car for one week and driving it x miles can be modeled by the formula C=.10X+250. How many miles can you travel in one week for $330? Is this the formula I go by? A) 775 miles B) 3300 miles C) 283 miles D) 800 miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x= miles travel

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are given the cost and want the miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you've got $330 to spent total, but you have to spend $250 on the car for the week, leaving you with $80 for the miles. question is, at $0.10 per mile, how far can you go on $80 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

another way to express this is, if \(x\) is the number of miles, solve \(0.10x=80\) for \(x\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I just plugged in the answers and i came up 800. 1.10(800)+250=330

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant 0.10 not 1.10

But you need to be able to figure it out without the answers given to you first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats true!
