I went to a bookshop which displayed a board saying 70% off. I chose a book for which the displayed price was Rs. x. After a brief calculation, I realized that 30% of rs.x was a reasonable amount and hence decide to buy it. At the counter I realized that rs. x was actually the price after the discount. The difference between the original price and the price that I had calculated was Rs. 91 . What is the value of x?

a tough one!!

Try to build up an equation ..:)

thats what i m getting ..:((...have u got?..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see in the beginning we can start as that ATQ...30% of x = 3x/10....so at first the buyer was thinking that he wud pay 3x/10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah but later it's the price with the discount.... :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah later part is only confusing

hartnn (hartnn):

let original price be y displayed = x so, x=0.3y the mentioned difference = y - (0.3x) = 91 because he will calculate 0.3 x as the price....now 2 equations , 2 unknowns
