X^2+11x+24= (x+m)(X+r) compare the relationship Quantity A: m+r Quantity B: (m)(R)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Factor the quadratic trinomial into the form (x+m)(x+r) to see what 'm' and 'r' are.

OpenStudy (phi):

can you factor \[ x^2+11x+24\] ? I would list the factor pairs of 24: 1,24 2,12 3,8 4,6 the + on the 24 means the factors will have the same sign the +11 (from +11x) means the bigger factor is positive. together this means the factors are both positive. Look at each factor pair of 24 , and look for a pair that adds up to 11. Those are the factors.
