Ok. So permiter = "the sum of all the side lengths."

If you want to find the perimeter of the triangle you must add up all three sides. 

side1 + side2 + side3 = perimeter 
        x+ 3x-1 + 4x+2 = 81

Do you understand how I got that equation?

all those equations added together or summed must equal the perimeter which is 81. Then you combine like terms and solve for x.
