you can first show it by drawing the graph then you can show them how to find the roots
so since you know its a parabola, its going to cross the x axis at 2 points and you know that it crosses the x axis when y= 0

so all you needed to do was solve for x and to solve for x you do the opposite of what the x is doing, since x is squared, you need to take square root on both sides to get your answer, in this case it is + or - 9
