Anything by Dawkins would work - I haven't read his books myself, but I've heard good things about his earlier works from back before he got quite so silly about religion. I'm currently reading "Parasite Rex" by Carl Zimmer. I don't think he's a scientist, but he does his research and has a list of scientists in the Acknowledgements section at the back. I'm finding the book very interesting.
