Which of the following situations exhibits a reasonable limit placed on the First Amendment in the interest of the common good? a. Television shows are canceled when criminals claim they learned how to commit crimes by watching. b. Groups of three or more people must obtain a license from the city before meeting in any local parks. c. News reporters traveling with troops overseas must not reveal their location or the soldier's identities. <---- I think c, not sure d. A confessed criminal is forced to speak in court and describe his or her crimes in detail for public record.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1st, do you know what the first amendment is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, of course, its freedom of speech, press, and religion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, if it is in the interest of the common good, it means it effects a good amount of people, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So then what would you say is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b? bt i didnt think it made sense because of the groups of three part...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, the 1st amendment actually means: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, now does B make sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not sure because the amendment says "right of the people peaceably to assemble" so that means they have the right to go to the parks peacefully. Sorry if im a bit confused...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, it says group, and it's a park, i would think that it reasonably limits people's rights

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. but why groups of three, that just makes me question is. what about the other ones anyway?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The amount of people doesn't matter, you may be over thinking this a bit, not to be rude or anything

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand, so b because i has reasonable limit that is placed on the park?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a reasonable limit of people in groups of three or more - a group is protected under rights of assembly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so B? I understand now. :)
