the length of a leg of an isosceles triangle is twice the length of the base. What is the minimum length of the base if the perimeter is at least 20cm?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use an inequality to solve

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

|dw:1350277845476:dw| solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you walk me through it?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well let the base = x so the equal sides of the isosceles triangle must be 2x and if the perimeter is at least 20 then by adding the side lengths 2x + 2x + x >= 20 does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope. why did you put in an equal sign?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

because the question says at least 20... so it can be 20 or more.... thats why my inequality is greater than or equal to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
