This is straight knowledge based so I cannot really walk you through it nor do I claim to be a chemistry wizard but my best guess would be groups as the periodic table is organized to put elements with similar properties in the same group.

ahhh like I said I saw she was desperate posting in math help for chem help so I gave it my best shot I really could be wrong. I explained the way I thought of answer up there.

I would also say groups because elements in the same groups have similar orbitals and therefore similar properties
