. The three major monotheistic religions are sometimes described as branches of the same family tree. If this is true, how would you describe the trunk of the tree?

I would describe it being the similar beliefs. The branches would be where they would kind of break apart. Jus my opinion.

Judaism is the trunk.; All three take the Biblical Abraham as the patriarch. Islam then claims descendence through his son Ishmael, the Jews through his son Isaac, and the Christians of course break off considerably later, when Jesus Christ appears, and is hailed by the Christans as the Messiah, by the Jews as just another prophet.
