OpenStudy (amorfide):

can someone explain as simply as possible the newton raphson method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Guess x0 (needs to be reasonably close for convergence) Then first iteration x1 = x0 - f(x0)/f'(x0) and repeat to desired accuracy.

OpenStudy (amorfide):

how would i know what value of x0 to put in?

OpenStudy (amorfide):

would it be the value closes to the point of the cut on the x axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Usually the function provides you with enough info to make a guess at the root

OpenStudy (amorfide):

|dw:1350326896625:dw|

OpenStudy (amorfide):

what value would i out in?

OpenStudy (amorfide):

put*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eg Cos x -x has a root between 0 and 1 so u coulde choose 1/2 to start.

OpenStudy (amorfide):

ohhhh okay! thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw

OpenStudy (amorfide):

okay so x2 so when i figure out x2 would i sub in the value of x1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, just iterate, successive iterates will come closer and closer to the root (if it converges)
