Is (2,4) a solution to the equation y = x – 2? yes no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is not, because if you plug 2 in for x (as shown in your coordinates) y=0

When i see these problems, I really want to add an extra answer, and say "maybe so". There are two things you have to know for this problem, what a coordinate pair is, and how to solve an equation. First, coordinate pairs are shown as (x,y), so in this case, 2 is you x, 4 is your y. So now plug them in to your equation. 4=2-2 4=0 Maybe somewhere in the universe, 4 equals 0, but I dont think your math teacher would like that answer. Since 4 does not equal 0, this point does not work.
