here's a little proposition I have. For the good of everyone, and integrity of the site, if it be possible, turn of chats for at least a month, or more if possible, keep the messages feature open though... and hopefully in that time space without the chats, most, if not all the weirdos, would have left or stopped coming here cos they come here only for the chats and they make "noise" and keep the chats rather dirty and just plain awkward. i understand the chat was meant for off-topic chat, but even off-topic chats have limits of what's okay to talk about and what's not.

I'd rather have you be bored than have you talk about people being "sexy" and "beautiful underwear and panties" on openstudy. I respect openstudy a lot and I wouldn't have its image tarnished by some stupid shinanigans.

Hehehe, dont do this to me Saso:) But yes i agree its a nice thing. BUT. U have the ability to turn the chats off for yourself! Like there is a little ying yang button for u to block all chats and keep them out of your way. The only reason i like to keep the chats is because most kids my age, will look at a chat and be all like "YEE HAW!" and then that way they learn more about OpenStudy by just being welcomed and asked to review the CoC. Then they get a know on the site. The Chats help the newcomer learn the concept that there are more people like them on this site, who have come here to get help on what they want to learn. I like to have chats to stop the people from getting overwhelmed. Because if we have no chats, then obviously, its kinda hard for the new comers to notice that there is a private messaging thing. They have no clue that there is an, "Ask a question..." box. They totally skim over and say, "ok i don't understand this site, good bye!"" But if they get on a chat, then they know the hows and whats happening. Thats how i kept coming back to OpenStudy! When i had first posted my question, I looked at the chat, and I was ready to go! I learned so much in less than 10 minutes! I found out who was like me and who understood what type of study material i was having trouble with. The chats are meant to be an area for where we just hang out and discuss non-education related material. Ofcourse, we have to keep it PG-13. And most of us follow that, even though i agree some people just get way too out of hand. Thats why we have mods! And the way people say "SEXY" its their way of dialect! They use that kind of words in their personal life i bet too! IDK. what i just wrote i was just on a rampage, i am sur ei can think of more sensible things if i just wasn't in a rush! GTG bye!

i'm sure i know what i'm asking for, and that's to get the chat functionality off completely, for a month, or more :) but keep the messages feature open.
the whole point is to clear some if not all the weeds out of the plantation, that way, we can yield more ;)

i'm glad a lot of ppl disapprove of this idea, let them that are on OS for what it is stay, and them that are here for the chats leave. the chats is a by-product, so to speak, but ppl have made it their main objective for using OS. that should be discarded.

You know... if they take off chat, but leave on the messaging feature.. People might get A LOT worse. They cant really monitor every message someone sends, but they CAN monitor chat.
People would get way out of hand if they could say whatever they wanted to in message, without the risk of being caught by a Mod God.
Chat is a way of people taking a break from studying(or in my case, slacking off from studying), and messaging isnt always that fun. I'd like to have a conversation between MORE than just one person sometimes, but that cant happen with PMs...
like I said, if chat was taken away, I dont think I'd come on openstudy anymore. :P Chat makes it fun, as weird and inappropriate as it gets sometimes. What about new users who have NO clue what they're doing? People in chat can help them out. Just like KC said. Taking off chat isnt the best idea I've heard, BUT if you take it off for certain users that are going against the CoC, that might be a better idea. (Well, not really because of the way I talk, but whatever. :P)

I would like to see the chat situation more manageable. Killing chat all together, even as a temporary experiment, would prove what exactly? Are we looking for membership drop in that time?
I am for the idea of a more condensed chat. Perhaps a single chat (others have brought up this idea). This way it would be easier to collect all the problem users and the good users court report them all at once. It's also a lot easier for mods to open one chat bar to check for trouble instead of 5.

This is going to happen to some extend soon when they delete the extra sections, as is discussed on another thread by Mattfeury. The question is whether we will leave it as a few chats for legitimate sections only, or consolidate chat further. I think the idea of removing chat completely is not well supported by the higher-ups.
