how do you know if a function is one to one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A function for which every element of the range (y) of the function corresponds to exactly one element of the domain (x). One-to-one is often written 1-1

perform the vertical line test- for every x value there should be only one y value, so if you draw a vertical line through the function it should only touch it once
