A person 4 feet tall casts a 9 foot shadow at the same time that a nearby tree casts a 21 foot shadow. What is the height of this tree?
the tree is 9 1/2 feet tall
How did you solve this
My way is silly, and probably a little basic, but ill try to explain. First: add the height of the person and their shadow twice. Second: now we know that the height of the tree is taller than 8 ft. , because the length of the shadow does not match up right. Third: 21-18=3 Fourth: 3 is 1/3 of 9, so then we divide 4ft. by 3. Fifth: i can't do that, so i take the ft. number into inches which is 48. Sixth: i divide 48 by 3 Seventh: you get 16. Eighth: 16 inches = 1ft. 4 inches. ( oops just realized i messed up in the answer) Ninth: add the previously known 8 ft. to 1 ft. 4 inches and you get the height of the tree: 9ft. 4 in. Hope that helps :P
It confuse me
