How long does Smokers Cough last?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm pretty sure it lasts for as long as the smoker smokes.

thank you.. do we have a remedy for this even if they cont to smoke?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, the simple answer is that there is no especially effective treatment, if the smoker continues to smoke. There are a couple of types of drugs that can help with smoker's cough. There are "bronchodilators," which help relax and widen up the airways, so that more air can get into the lungs. And there are "corticosteroids," which help reduce the inflammation in the airways. When a person smokes, all that smoke and all those chemicals cause the airways to become inflamed. So, these drugs really can only remain effective when the smoking stops. Because that continuous flow of smoke and chemicals into the lungs is only going to bring back the problems related to smoker's cough, again and again.
