Which line is perpendicular to y=2x-8 a) 4y+2x=2 b) y=2x-4 c) 3x+2y=-6 d) y=-2x+7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can u find the slope of the perpendicular line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It doesn't say, just that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have two lines with slope m1 and m2, then they are perpendicular if (m1)(m2)=-1. Did u know this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok any how the answer is A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, what is m1 and m2 in this equation?

OpenStudy (aripotta):

m is slope. perpendicular lines have negative reciprocal slopes to each other. so like, if one line had a slope of 2...the perpendicular line would have a slope of -1/2

OpenStudy (aripotta):

after you change the first choice from standard form into slope-intercept form, you'll see that the slope is, indeed, -1/2
