you have this :

1 -2 -2       x1             5
2  3  -4       x2        =  5
1  -4  3       x3             2

find inverse of that 3x3 matrix..
multiply that inverse with 3x1 ,matrix

compare and solve for x1,x2,x3

i might not have explained very well..am sorry,,but i dont like matrix much ! :P

Cramer's Rule, anyone? :)  
I'm that sure that makes use of matrices too, but I find determinants to be far less taxing than finding the inverse of matrices...
