Explain how to factor the following trinominal forms: ax^2+bx+c when a = 1 ex. x^2-2x-80

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

you need 2 numbers a and b where ab = -80 and A + b = -2 the factor form will b (x +/- a)(x +/- b)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you find that out tho? can you show me step by step please?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

sorry I have little time i'll just say that the 2 numbers are +10 and -8 giving (x + 10)(x - 8) if you expand this it will come back to your trinomial

thanks!
